Laura and Tyler are two girls who like to party - drink, drugs and general debauchery infuse their days while their careers and lives remain on hold. As they drift into their thirties, reality begins to bite, but Laura and Tyler will not be tamed so easily. A celebration of female friendship, the film is an unconventional and very funny snapshot of two very modern women.

“a wonderful, utterly lived-in film about two women at a crossroads, one that attendees should be breathlessly, excitedly discussing around town, urging everyone else to see immediately.” – The Guardian

Martin Ward is a cove fisherman, without a boat. His brother Steven has re-purposed their father's vessel as a tourist tripper, driving a wedge between the brothers. With their childhood home now a get-away for London money, Martin is displaced to the estate above the picturesque harbour. As his struggle to restore the family to their traditional place creates increasing friction with tourists and locals alike, a tragedy at the heart of the family changes his world.

UPSTAIRS PLANET: Cleaners From Venus & The Universe of Martin Newell

This is the World Premiere of Graham Bendel's latest film, the third in a trilogy of 'rugged individualists' who've rocked the fringes and occasionally crossed over into the musical mainstream.

Martin Newell is a raconteur, poet, musical genius and the Godfather of Lo-Fi.

'Upstairs Planet' is about the greatest band from the 1980s you've possibly not heard of: Cleaners From Venus. Funny, moving and hugely entertaining, it's about a relatively unknown  - but hugely talented -  cult 80s musician who has been a tremendous influence on many well-known acts and admired by a whole host of others (John Cooper Clarke, XTC, Ariel Pink, Mac DeMarco, etc).

Will he ever get the credit that he so richly deserves? Does he even want that approval? In the meantime, reaching a wider audience is threatened by health setbacks and, quite probably, his irascible temperament.  Find out more about the 'Greatest Living Englishman' and his unique & eccentric take on the world.

Previous documentaries from director Graham Bendel have been on Vic Godard/Subway Sect & Billy Childish, which have been screened all over the world.

+ Short film by JF Whitney on Billy Childish (I'm Hurting/ The Bitter Cup)  5 mins 12 secs

Plus live special guest: Martin Newell, in a rare London performance, will perform a short set after the film.

Music before and after in the Bar from DJs: (including:

special guest DJ Richard Norris (The Grid/Beyond The Wizards Sleeve) who'll be playing a psychedelic & suitably eclectic set.
